Despite many airport lounges closed for much of 2020 and 2021, travellers' top independent flight lounges are mostly in Europe, with Hong Kong and Singapore also represented in the top 10.

Votes for these non-airline operated airport lounges came in for the World Airline Awards by Skytrax, collected over September 2019 through July 2021 from passengers — representing a mix of normal travel times combined with pandemic travels.

Coming out tops for the fifth consecutive year as the “World’s Best Independent Airport Lounge” is Plaza Premium Lounge at London Heathrow Airport T2, followed by Primeclass Lounge at Muscat Airport, and the IGA Lounge at Istanbul Airport.

In Asia, top 10 spots went to the Centurion Lounge (5th) and Plaza Premium Lounge (7th) both at Hong Kong International Airport, while
dnata Lounge at Singapore Changi Airport T1 came in sixth.

“It is unprecedentedly important for us to stay persistent in rebuilding the future of travel. In the past months, the slowdown in travel has granted us opportunity to rethink and re-engineer our customer experience and service offerings," said Song Hoi-see, Founder and CEO of Plaza Premium Group.

Plaza Premium Group's rethinking of strategies include pivoting to and working towards 500 global rail lounges by 2025, while airport lounges will expand from 180 to 500 globally by 2024/25.
