Okura's new hotels are headed for the scenic mountains

Hotel Okura has announced two new hotels coming up in Asia, both of which are scheduled to open in 2024.

In China, Hotel Okura Shanghai Sheshan will be located in Sheshan, a scenic forested mountainous area 30km southwest of Shanghai city centre.

The new two-storied hotel will be built on an expansive 40,000sqm site designed to blend in with the surrounding landscape, offering 280 guest rooms each with a standard area of about 50sqm.

A variety of restaurants will offer Japanese food, all-day dining and Chinese cuisine, in addition to a lobby lounge, a banquet hall and multi-purpose meeting rooms, as well as a fitness and spa facilities with an indoor pool.

Prominent landmarks in the area include the National Shrine and Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Sheshan―a prominent Roman Catholic church―on the western peak of Sheshan Hill, the Shanghai Astronomy Museum, and the Sheshan Dinosaur Park.

In the hotel's proximity are golf courses including the Sheshan International Golf Club and Tianma Country Club, and leisure facilities such as the Happy Valley Shanghai Theme Park and the Shanghai Playa Maya Water Park.

In Japan, Hotel Okura will be opening its first ski resort in Niseko, southwest of Sapporo in Hokkaido, about two and a half hours' drive from New Chitose Airport.

The new property will be situated in the Niseko Hanazono resort, located to the northern part of Niseko United, a ski area that spreads out at the base of Niseko Annupuri. Being adjacent to the ski area, the hotel will offer guests easy access to winter sport opportunities as well as magnificent views of Mt. Yotei.

Nikko Style Niseko Hanazono will offer 234 guest rooms, each with a standard area of about 34sqm, including 16 suite rooms, on eight floors above ground. All guest rooms on the top two floors will be equipped with bathrooms featuring a private natural hot spring bath.

The hotel will also be home to a restaurant with an open kitchen offering cuisine featuring local ingredients from Hokkaido as well as views of the surrounding nature from every seat.

Recreational amenities include hot spring facilities with open-air baths overlooking Mt. Yotei, a club lounge, a fitness centre, and banqueting facilities.
