SINGAPORE – As more countries close their borders and urge people to stay home, serviced residence providers have reported an uptick in bookings.

Australia-based Crown Group, which currently operates two serviced apartment hotels under its Skye Suites brand, has seen a notable 7% rise in forward bookings for April after it launched a new pricing for long-stay guests earlier this week.
Crown Group’s COO Mr Pierre Abrahamse noted that the rapidly evolving travel situation has had a “dramatic effect” on long stay bookings at its two hotels in Sydney and Parramatta.
The group said its new long-stay offer is attracting guests who are seeking stays amid travel disruptions and home-based working arrangements.
“We’ve had one company CEO book in for three months so he can work somewhere quiet during the day, away from the distractions of his family, and a doctor book for a month while he is stationed in Sydney temporarily,” he said.
Its hotels, which have self-contained apartments with their own kitchens and laundries, are suitable for such stays.
Serviced residences’ main base of long-staying guests has also helped to cushion the impact from the temporary travel restrictions.
This week, Oakwood made the call to proceed with its newest opening, a 151-unit property in Jakarta, after it “received [a] very encouraging response”.
The new Oakwood Apartments PIK Jakarta is the first international serviced apartments brand to debut in the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) neighbourhood, which has direct access to the city’s Central Business District. Bookings at the property have “less transient fluctuations” and guest stays range from one night to over a year.
“We have seen a balanced mix of bookings from corporate as well as individual travellers for both long and short stays,” said Mr Dean Schreiber, interim CEO of Oakwood and managing director of Oakwood Asia Pacific.
“With the recent travel restrictions imposed by the Indonesian government, these bookings are naturally coming from the domestic market at the moment.”
Meanwhile, Frasers Hospitality said that it has “many long-stay guests residing with us from weeks to months”, according to its spokesperson.
“Our clientele base is mostly corporate on long stay basis which, at current situation, is ideal as an alternative work-from-home environment,” the spokesperson added.
