As the Maldives increases its tourism target to 2.5 million visitors for this year, 2027 has been officially designated as Visit Maldives Year.
Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced the initiative during his 2026 Presidential Address, calling it a "monumental national endeavour”.
The campaign will serve as a unified national platform, bringing together domestic and international stakeholders to strengthen tourism – the country’s primary economic engine.
"Tourism remains the gateway of our economy and the primary source of foreign exchange," Muizzu stated. "Transforming 'Visit Maldives Year' into an inclusive national success is vital to ensuring that the benefits of this industry reach every Maldivian citizen."
Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC), in coordination with a specialised steering committee under the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, has already activated an international promotion strategy spanning 2026 and 2027.
The approach combines participation in major global trade fairs, targeted regional roadshows and data-driven digital campaigns. Together, these efforts position 2026 as a year focused on driving record profitability while laying the groundwork for the landmark Visit Maldives Year 2027.
