Leaders in Bali continue to make calls for a moratorium on new hotels, yet there is little let-up in announcements of new developments.
Bali Governor Wayan Koster recently applauded six regency leaders who endorsed a move to curb permits for new hotels and restaurants on productive land, starting in 2026.
The agreement, however, does not include Bandung Regency or Gianyar Regency, home to tourism hot spots, including Canggu, Uluwatu, Nusa Dua and Ubud.
The latest development is IHG Hotels and Resorts’ announcement of plans to debut the Kimpton brand in Bali in 2026.
Kimpton Bali Ubud in 2026 will offer 101 rooms along a stretch of the Wos River, and within walking distance of Ubud Palace.
A notable culinary outlet will be Imamura, a Japanese restaurant led by Michelin-starred chef, Hirofumi Imamura.
IHG’s portfolio in Bali includes Regent Bali Canggu and Six Senses Uluwatu.
