Tourism Australia has named Robin Mack as its new managing director; a role he has been helming at interim capacity ever since Phillipa Harrison stepped down in August last year.

With Tourism Australia for over a decade, the MD role comes as an internal promotion from his previous role as executive general manager for global markets and business events, where he also managed the Business Events Australia arm.

Prior to joining Tourism Australia, Mack built a career working with travel retailers, wholesalers and airlines before entering the destination marketing sector.

“It is a great honour and privilege to lead an organisation that never underestimates the essential role it plays in driving demand for leisure and business events travel to Australia,” said Mack.

Pointing to tourism as a “critical economic contributor to Australia [and] an incredibly competitive global field,” the new leader also expressed zeal for his “mandate” to capture Australia’s share of the global traveller market.

The appointment comes ahead of a decade of high key sporting events, including the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
