The upcoming Noida International Airport (NIA) is set to open a new gateway into North India when commercial operations officially begin on 15 June.
The airport is the second civil airport in the National Capital Region (NCR) and among India’s largest greenfield aviation projects of its kind. Authorities expect it to strengthen connectivity across the greater Delhi area, western Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring states.
Local budget airline IndiGo will operate the first flight from NIA, followed by services from Akasa Air and Air India Express. Discussions with additional domestic and international carriers are ongoing as the airport looks to expand its route network following launch.
In phase one, NIA will open a 3,900m runway and one terminal, with a capacity of 12 million passengers annually.
A four-phase masterplan will see that number eventually scaled to 70 million passengers annually, positioning NIA among India’s largest aviation hubs.
Within, Heinemann and BWC will run retail and duty-free shops, while an airport hotel will be run by Roseate Hotels and Resorts, owned by Bird Group.
Sustainability goals also guided the construction, which authorities say area geared towards net-zero emissions through environmentally focused design and operations. These include tapping solar and wind power, airside EV charging infrastructure, and using low-carbon limestone calcined clay cement in construction.
Looking ahead, NIA will also serve as a multimodal transport node, integrating road, rail and future rapid transit links to improve regional accessibility.
