Taiwan’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) will soon increase its fee for international departures from NT$500 (US$15) to NT$750, beginning 1 September 2026.

A second hike will follow two years later on 1 September, 2028, double the original fee to NT$1,000.

The airport service fee, which is paid by departing passengers, has been frozen for 10 years at NT$500, according to MOTC. The fee is also low in comparison to neighbouring destinations.

The collected funds will go towards financing major upgrading works at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, including a third terminal and a third runway.

Another destination in the region also doubling (53%) the tax for all departing international passengers is Thailand. The Kingdom will next month implement a passenger service charge of 1,120 baht (US$36), effective 20 June 2026.
