It is now possible to get showered and dried in 15 minutes - simply by lying down in a human washing machine, available for the first time in Hokkaido, Japan.
The Future Human Washing Machine, which first garnered worldwide attention at the Osaka Kansai Expo 2025, was priced at approximately 60 million yen (US$377,623).
Travellers may check into the Es Con Field Hokkaido Hotel Kitahiroshima Ekimae, to book a shower slot at a fee of 12,000 yen per session for up to three guests.
With the body immersed in water, ultra-fine microbubble technology omits the need for scrubbing by penetrating deep into the pores.
At an unveiling event, local Japanese media who received a first-hand experience of the machine described the shower which left a “soothing sensation” as warm water mist enveloped the body.
To promote relaxation, the capsule additionally projects tailored music and visual content, even as a system monitors electrocardiographic (ECG) waveforms to “analyse the user’s autonomic nervous system condition”.
The 15-minute submersion is part of the larger Japanese ‘totonoi routine’, which starts with a sauna, cold bath, the human washing machine shower, and ends with outdoor air bathing.
“Through this, we aspire to create a wellness-oriented society where everyone can live in good health and beauty,” said Yasuaki Aoyama, chairman of Science Holdings Co., Ltd., the developer of the capsule.
The Future Human Washing Machine is available year-round for hotel guests. Children under elementary school age must be accompanied by a guardian. Swimsuits and reservations are required.
