Phuket is on track to launch a boat taxi service, directly connecting Phuket International Airport to resort destinations across the island’s west coast.
Authorities say the taxi service will ease road congestion, promote ecotourism, and showcase the island’s waterways “in a whole new way”.
The service from the airport to Patong beach will operate during peak season from November to April, using catamarans and speedboats that will dock at floating piers designed to minimise environmental impact.
A pilot service will connect Nai Yang Beach, near the international airport, with Patong beach. The 17 nautical mile route will take approximately 40 minutes by boat, compared with a road trip which can. take anything from an hour and a half to three hours, depending on traffic.
The long-term plan envisages a network of 14 stops along the west coast of the island, including key tourist beaches.
