Japan-based JTB Corp. has nominated Aomi Tomo as its next president and CEO, marking a leadership transition at one of the world’s largest travel companies.
The appointment, approved at a board meeting, will take effect on 30 June, subject to formal endorsement at the company’s 63rd Annual General Meeting of Shareholders and a subsequent board meeting on the same day.
Current president and CEO Yamakita Eijiro is slated to become chairperson of the board, while existing chairman Takahashi Hiroyuki will assume an advisory role.
Aomi, currently managing executive officer in charge of long-term vision and strategy promotion, has been instrumental in shaping JTB’s post-pandemic direction. His recent remit includes leading the design and execution of the group’s future vision and strategic initiatives.
He joined the company in 1993, beginning his career in frontline customer service and corporate sales at the Sapporo branch before moving into roles spanning human resources, sales planning and corporate functions in Hokkaido.
From 2007, Aomi oversaw travel business marketing at group headquarters, later transitioning into corporate planning where he helped expand JTB’s business scope, including the launch of JTB Communication Design.
He has since held a series of senior strategy and business planning roles across the organisation. Appointed executive officer in 2021 and director and managing executive officer in 2022, Aomi played a key role in steering management reforms during the Covid-19 pandemic. He also led the “nextender” innovation initiative to drive new business creation and strategic partnerships.
In 2024, he was named president of JTB Americas, where he strengthened the meetings and events and business travel segments through M&A and investments, while enhancing governance and internal controls.
Since January 2026, Aomi has been leading long-term vision and strategy promotion at JTB Corp., positioning him as a central figure in the group’s transformation agenda.
The company said details of the new executive management team will be announced at the end of May.
